The Street Trail
Join me on a walk to explore the lanes and closes of Lerwick.
As we wander along absorb the atmosphere and imagine how Victorians
lived in the crowded lanes.
- Listen to stories of everyday life two centuries ago
- Hear tales of public disorder, tar barrelling, murder, ghosts, smuggling and press gangs
- Discover where a famous war leader spent his early childhood
- Learn about the origins of the names of the Lanes
- Visit a disused cellar under Commercial Street said to be used by smugglers to hide their booty, and discover its grim secret
