Douglas Sinclair is a recognised local historian with his main interest being Lerwick, his home town. He works as a tour guide, specialising in guided walks of Old Lerwick, and is a Regional Affiliate Member of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association.

As a boy Douglas played in the lodberries, closses and courtyards of Old Lerwick and was familiar with smugglers' tunnels and explored many of the ancient buildings, now demolished.
